   QEERROO: The National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy

Qeerroo Bilisummaa is the National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy Resistance group.  The term Qeerroo is an Afaan Oromoo word ascribed to youth group. Its etymology stems from the word “Qeerrensa/Qeerransa” whose literal meaning is “tiger”.  In Oromo context, Tiger is a symbol of fierce fighter, a dignified creature, energetic and unyielding to compromise of any sort if it touches its survival and dignity. Qeerroo are the youth social strata of Gadaa Sysytem that represents the potential force of Oromo youth estimated to amount nearly 10 million in number.

            Background:

Qeerroo is a youth-led network came to represent a youth movement in Oromia. Founded in April 2011, Qeerroo Bilisummaa Oromoo emerged as a youth driven resistance that connects Oromo youth through peer support, leadership development, youth resistance, and advocacy.

Our struggle model supports Oromo youth in starting, strengthening and sustaining to create strong youth network that advocates, defends and fights for Freedom, Justice and Equality.
